All MEGOFF reels are designed based on a single concept. We have spent many months to create unique and effective drag systems capable provide a stable work in any condition. We selected four the most efficient types of drag system for MEGOFF reels.

The drag system for "small" reels (2-5 AFTMA classes, fig.1) is classical and robust "Spring & Pawl" mechanism.

Using this mechanism allows avoid line overrun when you are casting and landing fish. This drag system has been used in inexpensive models like: S&P 12 DD AL, S&P 34 DD LA AL, S&P 46 DD LA AL Kola Salmon, S&P 23 VR Serie, Alex's reel 24, Alex's reel 57.

These reels are relatively light and allow easy add additional hand braking while you are landing a fish.

The line of medium reels (AFTMA class 3-7) is equipped with "light" version of disk drag system (fig.2)

MDS disk drag system features:

  - Waterproof capsule design, which eliminates the "aqua-gliding" side effect. and provides well controlled braking at any speed of the spool.

  - “High Energy Friction Pair”, the stainless steel and carbon composite were used to provide perfect friction control for this disk drag system.

  - “Short Shift”, the MDS has short drag regulation. It takes only 0.5-1 turn of drag knob to get from min to max position.

This drag system can be found in the following models: MDS 35 DD LA TI, MDS 57 DD LA TI, MDS 79 DD LA TI.

Heavy duty reels (AFTMA 8 to 14) designed for used in salmon and saltwater fishing are featured with heavy disk drag system (fig. 3)

Forced MDS disk drag system features:

  -  Waterproof capsule design, which eliminates the "aqua-gliding" side effect and provides well controlled drag and braking at any speed of the spool.

  - "Forced MDS" , features an enforced high-energy disc pair system. Extra disks mean increased energy for super drag when you need it. This system will help you land the biggest fish. It might even stop a truck.

  - "Precise Shift", long drag regulation, allows have well controlled braking. It takes 2-3 turns of drag knob to get from min to max position.
Star-like drag knob is "sunk" into the back part of the frame. It prevents fly line to get under the drag knob and makes drag adjustment easier. Knob position is fixed with "click-ball mechanism".

  - "Quiet Step", this system is equipped with quiet click, which works the same in both directions while spool is rotating.

This drag system can be found in the following models: MDS 810 DD LA TI, MDS 1012 DD LA TI, MDS 1214 DD LA TI.

Classic type of reel with regular or anti-reverse drag mechanics (fig. 4) is made in a similar way, but has no block-construction. These reels are MDS 79 AR Classic AL, MDS 79 DD Classic AL , MDS 1012 AR Classic AL, MDS 1012 DD Classic AL.

All types of MEGOFF reel drag system uses stainless steel ball bearings and one-way clutches. The construction is well protected from water and dust (dirt) and uses corrosion proof material, like titanium, bronze, stainless steel.

We pay special attention to design of frame and spool. All reels, except classic style, use large-arbor spool. Larger inner diameter of the spool gives perfect line control on the water and makes brake system stable.

We spent a lot of time statistically analyzing geometric parameters of various reels (fig.5). Some main parameters are shown in fig.6.

The table shows relationship between volume of spool and AFTMA classification and helps you to choose the correct one.
